- Reading a book that starts off somewhat slow, drawing me into the lives and friendship of two courageous young women, unexpectably takes my breath away causing me to hide in the bathroom as I gasp and sob, ugly tears, and then delivers a satisying ending and lingers in my brain for days. The book: CODE NAME VERITY by Elizabeth Wein. I highly recommend this one.
- Waking up to learn that BBC America is developing a mini-series of JONATHAN STRANGE & MR. NORRELL by Susanna Clarke, one of my favorite books!

- Reaching 20,000+ words yesterday on my WiP.

What makes you happy today?
Cool, congrats on the 20k!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jason :)
DeleteI LOVED CODE NAME VERITY. One of my favorite books from last year.
ReplyDeleteI added Code Name Verity to my goodreads list, it sounds great. I mostly read two genres: historical fiction and YA. You think this is the book for me? :D Thanks for the rec!
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, I started Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell and read about 50 pages or so, and I just couldn't get into it. So I put it down unfinished. Maybe I'll try again someday? But life is too short to slog through books that don't grip me just because lots of my friends loved them, right?
What I loved about this novel is that I forgot it was YA and was totally drawn into the story of these two friends. I will say to stick with it if you think it starts slow. I've read some criticism that the story was a bit tedious due to a lot of description about planes and flying, but it didn't bother me.
DeleteAnd about not caring for JS&MN. You're so right. I used to slog through books even if I didn't like them, but I'm over that now. I'll give a book about 100 pages - I think that's fair - before giving up on it.
I've got that going on right now with Kate Morton's The Secret Keeper. Love her books!
ReplyDeleteI love Kate Morton. Have done for years now.
DeleteCongrats on getting so far in your WIP. Big fan of Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell. Can't wait to check that out. Hope we get it here in the states.
ReplyDeleteMe too, jaybird! Thanks for stopping by.
DeleteWhoo hoo. Good going on the word count.
ReplyDeleteJSaMN has been in the works for ages. I remember a rumour over six years ago that Paul Bettany would take the lead.
Happiness for me today? Sleep would be good!
I'm so glad it's finally happening!
DeleteSleep? I vaguely remember what that is...
