Summer Love

Not of the boy meets girl variety but rather a tribute to my favorite season of the year.

I’m one of those perpetually cold people.
I layer my clothes and have a sweater or sweatshirt within arm’s reach 9 out of 12 months of the year.
I’m one of those “I’d rather be hot than cold” people and can’t wait to shed my winter clothes.
I love the smells of summer - peonies and roses, freshly cut grass, the scent of the moist air before a storm, sidewalks after a summer rain, neighborhood barbecues...

And so hooray for 2 ½ work free months and
...no schedule
...not having to make 4 lunches 5 mornings a week
...not having to iron uniforms
...not having to get to bed at a reasonable time

Hooray for
...the warmth of the sun on my bare arms
...morning coffee on my back deck
...flipflops
...collecting seashells on the beach
...hanging clothes outside on the clothesline (love that fresh air smell)
...early evening leisurely walks with my youngest daughter
...beer on a Tuesday or Wednesday night or any other night for that matter
...car rides where the only destination is an icecream stand
...time to write, read, dream, laugh, garden...

What do you love about summer?

  1. Lovely. When the kids grow up and move away summer takes on a different feel. It just shifts chores from inside to outside. But I still love summer. For all the reasons you listed.

  3. Glad you are enjoying your summer! Summer has just ended in this part of the world. It was BLISTERING so I'm happy that it's starting to rain. I may change my mind after a few weeks of hiding under an umbrella though...

  4. @Donna W. - Outdoor chores don't feel like work to me because I enjoy being outside. And I love to be able to open my windows wide to let the fresh air in.

@Becky - I work in education too, Becky. In the northeast we don't return until late Aug/early Sept. I don't go back until after Labor Day.

@Samantha - Thanks Samantha. I don't mind rain either (in fact it's a cool rainy day today). Have a great weekend!

  5. I love that things slow down. But I still have to go to work and get my daughter off on her busy schedule. So it's sadly not that much less busy.

  6. It's funny you say that about always being cold -- I just turned my space heater on at work. In June! People will think I'm crazy but it's FREEZING in here.

  7. @Natalie - Sorry it's still such a busy time for you. At least the weather is usually more enjoyable this time of year. Thanks for stopping by!

@Stephanie - I hear you, Stephanie! It's 56 degrees and cloudy here today soooo...naturally I'm in jeans and a sweatshirt. No space heater, though :P

  8. Ahhhh, that sounds so wonderful. What I love is when the monsoon season comes. Otherwise, it's too hot. But I'm totally like you in that I always tend to be cold and have a sweater close by. Hard to believe that even when I go to the theatre in the summer time (can be 110 degrees) I still have one with me. Just in case. :)

P.S. I have 2 awards for you on my blog.

  9. Yay for summer! I love the park. We bring a picnic and a bottle of wine, then lounge around on the grass and watch the boats on the lake. Bliss.

  10. I think most of us are like you. I know I am. I love just about everything about summer...except the spiders in my house!
