Readjustment

This is the post that I tried to avoid. The post that admits that I cannot finish the NaNoWriMo this year. I won't bore you with the details. Life is just too time consuming right now.

Now, I'm not giving up completely; just readjusting the rules for myself. I know I won't even come close to 50k this month. That's a given. I love my new novel idea, but I'm starting to pine for the novel I've worked hard on so far. I really, really, really want to finish it this year.

One of my goals for 2010 was to finish this first draft. I've got 51 days before the new year. So, I've decided to put the NaNo novel (it's still unnamed) on hold for now and continue working on Nitpicky. I'll still try to write like crazy each day, like NaNoWriMo, but instead I'll continue with Nitpicky. Who knows? Maybe I'll add another 30k to it this month!

  1. No guilt, no guilt! Now that you've released yourself from obligation, you might actually write more than you think. :) But honestly, who chose November for Nano? For me, it's the craziest month of the year next to December. I kind of pulled a Nano in August and that worked much better for my personal schedule. So, all that to say, we all do what we can do when we can do it. Don't feel bad.

  2. November really is the WORST month for such a fun idea as NaNo. It is the month before Christmas, most writers are already working on a manuscript, there is Thanksgiving in the US...

I gave up NaNo on the 31st October, so you lasted longer than me, Suzie!

  3. Amy and Donna,
You two are absolutely correct. November really is a horrible month. Keeping up a regular writing routine is hard enough this time of year.

I'd be all for a NaNoWriMo in March, the longest month of the year for me.

  4. You did well to attempt this, I really wouldn't even try. I once became a finalist in a contest with just 50 pages of my manuscript done. Then they asked me to send the complete. Yikes! In two weeks I had to write 15,000 additional words, sending the plot of the story on a breakneck pace and abbreviating all the major twist. Fun, NOT!

  6. Shellie - Congrats on being a finalist! How exciting! 15K in 2 weeks? Did you sleep?

Thanks for the encouragement, Tamara! I agree wholeheartedly!

  7. I agree with the others. You can't feel guilty. And who did choose this month? I'm in for March, too! =) I like the Title of your WIP, sounds interesting.
I found your site on Tamara's blog party!

  8. Don't beat yourself up about not finishing - I didn't last year and haven't even attempted it this year simply because I know that's not what I should be doing right now.

Enjoy your writing and it will seem more like a passion than a chore.
